Gilda's Run 5K Race Report

It's been a while since I've blogged and I apologize. I'll catch up. This marks finals week for me so I've been kind of busy. I'm still running though.

My running has been kind of off for a while. On my Wednesday run the bottoms of my feet were on fire so I took my shoes off and ran for a while. I might be lacing my shoes too tight again. Yesterday my long run was off. I felt sick and came closer than you really want to know to throwing up at mile nine. I need to work on what I eat before I run.

Today was another 5K race for me. I was hoping to do well on a flatter course than what I've been racing lately. I felt fine at first but around the half way point I got a side stitch that wouldn't go away. It hurt so much that I actually had tears in my eyes. I walked for a little bit and then picked it up again. I ended up walking one more time before I finally finished.

My splits are pretty good but I am in no way proud of this race (even if it is over 5 minutes faster than last year). The worst part is my side is still killing me 11 hours later. I tried to jog from my house to the neighbors and it just hurt too much. I'm hoping I just wake up and it's gone tomorrow. I checked my temp and I'm not running a fever at least.

I'm also hoping my trouble running lately is mostly mental and that I can find a way to dig myself out of it.

I managed to get third in my age group, which means I've placed in every race so far this year. I talked with Laurel and Larry for a while. I'm really glad I started running with them. I'm slower than them but they keep running with me and they are really great. Larry helped me quite a bit yesterday and he keeps pointing out I tense up my shoulders; now I just need to relax more when I run.

Five minutes faster than last year rocks...even if it wasn't as good as you were hoping for!
