Wire

Last week I saw my friend Jennilyn (the queen of vert) and said, "Jennilyn, I need to get in some vert.  Will you take me?"  So we formulated a plan to to hike/run Wire.  Wire is no joke.  You gain 2,233' in 1.9 miles.  That said, I certainly wasn't breaking any records hiking up that hill!  It was a chilly morning and loads of fun to go somewhere new.  Jennilyn is a wealth of information and after I bonked at about one mile in (laugh it up, that's a tough hike!) I ate some applesauce, recovered and we chatted a lot about race nutrition.  I'm super glad we went and I definitely need to get some more vert in before Bryce and Logan!

Brr!  Where did Spring go?
On the way up!

#trailfie!
Jennilyn snapped this one of me hiking up a "runnable" section.  HA!  Depends on who you are!
This is the only steep section I took a picture of, because I could hardly breath, let alone take photos!

First Wire ascent!

Thanks for snapping this, Jennilyn.  Excuse my goofy form.  Those tired legs were not ready for a fast steep downhill!

Well, I was counting down to Logan Peak (which I'm still signed up for!?), but now it looks like the training week count down just switched from serious to GET SHIT DONE NOW!  So... Daily Mile & Lift

Friday I lucked out and had the entire morning to myself.  Of course, that meant I headed straight for the hills!  I decided to check out another section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail I'd never ventured down.  I parked at Red Rock Trailhead and went south all the way to the point of the mountain.  The trail was okay.  It runs really close to the neighborhood below, so it's almost like you're still in town, just on a trail instead of a road.  Still better than a road run, and nice to switch it up, but I don't think I'll go back any time soon.  I actually had another really great run.  Not quite as speedy as Tuesday, but still pretty quick for BST.  It was a beautiful morning and I was highly motivated, so I finished up my run and headed for the gym.  Double workouts.  Ohhhh yeahhhh...

The Wasatch <3

Beautiful if it weren't for all those pesky houses!

The buck stops here.  I made it to the rock quarry at the point of the mountain.

Because this is how trail running makes me feel...

50 Miles Sounds Fun

Well, I did it.  A bit last minute, but after the awesome training month I've had I decided to sign up for the Byrce 50 miler on June 14th.  I am beyond excited!  I'm just going to throw in a couple more 20+ milers and a 50k effort (I have a little 38 mile birthday party run brewing) by the end of next month and I'll be good to go!  WOOOO!!!!

Check out this video of my friend Jennilyn running the Bryce 100!  I.CAN'T.WAIT!

Daily Mile

This morning Jeff and I rolled out of bed just after 5am for a little running fun.  Katherine met us at 5:30am and we all headed out around the hood.  If was cold, but beautiful out.  Jeff did the first three miles with us ladies and then Katherine and I did another mile and a half before she had to call it.  I decided to go for a clean five and call it good.  No better start to the day!

Just so you know...

I am not a sissy.  Just so you know.  I realized this on my second run of the day on Tuesday, the day after heavy leg day at the gym.

Tuesday morning I got up early and did a small road run with Jeff.  Then, I came home, got kids off to school and hit the trails.  At first, it was a brutal slog.  After all, I murdered my legs only the day before.  Despite feeling like I would call it early, I ended up pushing through and had an absolutely amazing run and even ended up being fast!  I went out Ann's to the Bonneville Shoreline and did one big loop.  It was outstanding!

Oh, how I love you Corner Canyon!

Daily Mile & Lift

Monday I kicked ass on an early morning five mile run up Viscounti. Then I hit the gym and did legs.  Jeff tagged along to the gym as my personal motivator and pushed me to do an awesome leg workout that I am still feeling two days later!

Leg extensions
Hamstring curls
Squats
Leg press
Standing calf raise
Donkey calf raise

That five o'clock alarm sure comes quick!  But, I do love that early morning peacefulness.

Daily Mile & Lift (times five)

This week has been filled with a lot of wonderful runs.  Not only did I get to run with a new friend, I had the pleasure of being accompanied by my other half on three runs this week!  Jeff decided that he wanted to try a taste of my world and joined me for a few short jaunts this week!  What a stud!  Plus, we did the usual heavy lifting together.

Monday was chest day, although I took it really easy since I was still sore from Bosho on Saturday.  Tuesday Jeff and I did the one and a half mile loop in our neighborhood together.  My legs felt really good after this and I knew I was ready to run again.  Wednesday was twelve plus miles of fun with my NARF (New Adventure Running Friend.) Thursday Jeff and I ran 2.54 miles at Crestwood Park and then hit the weights for a killer back workout.  Then, this morning he joined me yet again for 3 miles at Crestwood.  He'd better look out, I may turn him into a trail runner!

Some of my favorite things.  I know you may not recognize me since I'm not wearing anything fluorescent, but I promise, it's me!

Mountain View Trail

I was thrilled to be able to meet my new runner friend, and all around great lady, Kristyan today for a run on Antelope Island.  We mostly did the Mountain View Trail, but had to make a detour because of a herd of buffalo that just didn't want to let us by.  It was the perfect post race run, mellow and fun!  Thanks for going with me Kristyan!

Good morning Antelope Island!

Mule deer on the run!
See those large black lumps?  Those are our new friends, Earl and company.

There were at least five of them and once they all turned to look at us and started sauntering our we, we decided it was time to find a new trail!

We stopped to make this cairn along the way.

We were in matching colorful duds!

We're so cute!
