Rest & Recovery

The week after Bryce I felt I'd been hit by a mac truck I did nothing.  No, that's not true.  I hobbled around like a drunken sailor, iced my legs, soaked in Epsom salts, foam rolled and ate like... like... well, like I just ran fifty miles.  Cookies.  Cake.  Carne Asada.  I worked hard at replacing calories and taking care of my body.  By Saturday the swelling and bruising were gone and I mostly wasn't limping any more.  I was also itching to move my body.  I hit the gym Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.  Monday I actually got up early in an attempt to hike, but I just wasn't ready so after 3/4 miles I left Corner Canyon and went to the gym.  Then there was my epic fail of a bike ride on Tuesday.  Overall, I've been doing great.  I have been sleeping in a lot.  I visited the chiropractor and massage therapist which was miraculous!  I'm really looking forward to running, but I'm trying really hard to be patient.  My IT bands are still tight, so I want to give them plenty of time to chill.  Soon enough.  The mountains aren't going anywhere...

Jeff, killing it, as usual.

 Hike.  Psych!

Oh yeah, and my nails are dropping like flies!

Trail Run Tuesday

After the Buffalo Run on Saturday I was feeling like I wanted to run forever.  I might have been a little over enthusiastic.  My legs were actually pretty tired from Saturday and somewhere around mile seven (with two miles left until I was back at my car) I realized a shorter run may or may not have been the wiser choice.  Despite the tired legs, I had a glorious day in the mountains.  The Pipeline trail was just perfect and the weather, divine!
How could you have a bad time on a trail like this?

Signs of Spring!  Green peeking through the brown!

My new Buffalo Run shirt.  Pastels aren't really my thing, but my youngest daughter was thrilled with the color!

Walking

I told my husband I was going to go for a walk today and he laughed at me.  True, I'm not much of a walker.  I've always found walking boring.  However, there is a time and place for a nice walk, and today was that time.  After two days of sore muscles, I woke up today finally feeling back to normal.  Katherine kindly agreed to go for a walk with me, so we headed to Dimple Dell gully.  It was cold and pretty and felt nice to stretch my legs.  We walked for an hour, which felt great!  Plus I got to share all the details of my race with my number one running buddy!  I'm still feeling very happy from with my race day performance and ready for a bit of rest and maybe a few weekends of sleeping in!
