Daily Mile

Today was my only run all week.  With a twinge in my knee last week, I just wasn't willing to push it.  Now, I'm feeling great!  Katherine and I went and hit up the Olympic Oval since it was all of 15ยบ outside.  She planned a lovely little speed work meets push ups kind of workout for us.  We had a blast and we had the place totally to ourselves for most of the time.  Bonus!  We could be as loud and obnoxious as we wanted without worry!  The track at the Oval is 442 meters, which is just over a quarter of a mile.

Here's the low down:
Run 4 laps warm up
Run 4 laps race pace
Run 1 lap cool down
Push ups 20 real push ups 20 modified push ups (Katherine stuck with the modified push ups)
Plank 60 seconds
Side plank both sides 30 seconds
Run 4 laps warm up
Run 4 laps 1/2 lap sprint, 1/2 lap easy pace
100 crunches
100 Russian twists
50 Bicycle crunches
25 Squats
25 Squat kicks
Countless epic high fives to running buddy interspersed accordingly

Go Katherine!  Get it!
I'm thinking 38 push ups for my 38th birthday.  I've got time...

Running finished!

Crunch time!
Squat it out, ladies!

The view from the floor.  It's a huge building!
Yeah, we were tired.  And happy.
Okay, now I know we've never fooled around on a run before *cough cough* but we saw this Christmas stuff and couldn't resist!

Today was a lot of fun!  I kind of forgot that I used to like sprinting.  I can haul ass pretty well on the super short stuff.  We will definitely be doing this again!

4.668 miles
Not really sure about time or pace.  The GPS on the Garmin doesn't work indoors.  Next time I'll have to use a stopwatch!

Daily Miles

Yesterday was supposed to be five miles.  My leg was really giving me grief though, so my five mile run turned into a two mile dog walk.  I was stressing out pretty badly yesterday, but I think I've gotten a grip after today's run was pretty good.

Today I went to the Olympic Oval with a few girlfriends and ran.  I felt a lot better than yesterday and was able to do my whole run without much trouble.  I was pretty slow and Katherine told me I was limping even though I felt okay.  The track at the oval is 442 meters.  I ran 30 times around it, which wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  WAY better than the treadmill.  Plus, the speed skaters practice on the ice which is inside the track.  They are fun to watch, and man oh man do they have the best butts and legs you've ever seen!

8.25 miles
1 hour 58 minutes
1 potty break and about 10 water stops (I think I'll bring my Nathan pack next time!)

Bum Leg

Well, I've been fighting with my right leg on and off since Christmas time.  I'm not really sure what the deal is, but my right hip is not happy with me.  After a short run today that ended with lots of pain I realized I need some days off.  I have cancelled the rest of my runs this week, including my long run (BOO!).  Those are very painful words, but I just cannot risk a true injury.  Right now I'm somewhere in limbo between healthy and injured and I need a break before I cross the line.  I have an appointment with my chiropractor on Tuesday and am hoping to take a friend up on an offer of some bodywork.  Between that, some ice, rest and ibuprofen I'm hoping to be as good as new by next week sometime.

Today Meghan, Katherine and I headed to the Olympic Oval to check out the indoor track.  It's a .27 mile track and quite nice.  There is an ice rink inside the track, so you can watch the speed skaters practicing while you run, which is fun.  The ice skaters all have butts that you could bounce a quarter off of!  There were a few other runners and a track team there, but there was plenty of room for us moms.  Had my run not ended in pain, I think I would have enjoyed it.  But, with the that and the 30+ minute car ride both ways I was left feeling quite frustrated at the wasted morning.  Hey, at least I got to chat with my girlfriends.

One bonus about the Oval was these awesome cut outs!  May as well end on a fun note!
