Family Firsts

My step-mom, Laura, has been on a journey this year to lose weight and become healthier.  She's doing an amazing job and has lost about 25 pounds.  My dad got her a treadmill and after much use, they decided to sign up for 5K together!  They did the Savannah River Bridge Run together today.  I talked to them both afterwards and it sounds like they both enjoyed it!  They finished in about 55 minutes.  I am so very proud of Laura and my dad!  It sounds like there will be more 5k's in their future!  Hooray!  Maybe some day we'll do one together!

Beautiful Laura
 My Dad
 Run.  Walk.  Crawl.
 Finishers!
And, as they both pointed out, they weren't last!
Congratulations again Dad & Laura!  Love you!

Yay for pepper spray!

I headed out from my Dad's house early on Sunday morning and out one of the few main streets with a sidewalk.  It was fairly pleasant out, but a lot more humid than I'm used to.  It was a quite nice run aside from the collar-less dog who kept jumping on me and wouldn't leave me alone, who I finally had to spray with pepper spray.  I felt quite bad about it, but he was a little more aggressive than I would have preferred and wouldn't respond to any of my multiple attempts to kick and holler at him to get away. The spray did the trick though, and he left me to lick himself in a patch of grass.  Luckily he was no where to be seen on my return trip.  I was soaked when I got back, as it was pretty hot by 8am.  I will be happy to run at home now, where, despite the heat it's not humid!  However, there is something to be said for running at sea level!

Daily Mile

Morning run on vacation, take two.  I was highly unmotivated today.  I just felt tired and hot.  It's really muggy out there.  But, I got a few miles in anyway and enjoyed the local flora.

Wow, that is some elevation!

My friend the turkey vulture was still roaming the neighborhood.

Cool plants!

This is only a mile or so from my Dad's house.  It's like the rain forest around here!

Daily Mile, Savannah Edition

After traveling to Savannah, Georgia on Saturday, my dad, my girls and I drove to Pensacola, Florida for my cousin's wedding where I played the roll of photographer.  It was a wonderful time and after a couple of days of pool, family and driving I was itching to run.  I actually had a dream that I was running on a treadmill, and enjoying it!

I got up early today to beat the heat and headed out into my Dad's neighborhood.  It was a beautiful morning and it felt good to move again after a few days off.

I love the moss on the trees here.

 Good morning Savannah!

I spotted this turkey vulture in someone's yard.

I also saw quite a few herons and lots of squirrels.

I love vacation.
