Huntsman 5k

Last weekend I ran my first 5k!  A runner friend of mine, Dona, recently lost her twin sister to Leukemia.  Dona has since been raising funds for AML.

If you would like to help, here's how:
When she texted me to ask if I'd join her team and run, I didn't hesitate to say yes!  The run was fun, yet strange.  As I'm usually taking the first three to five miles very easy, I knew I needed to step it up. I didn't break any land speed records (I'm pretty sure I've said that particular phrase about five millions times!) I felt good and did pretty well!

Dona and I after the race. She had t-shirts made up for the whole team!  Team Eileen, in memory of her sister.

Go Team Eileen!  Dona, cheering other team members into the finish!

Michelle, Dona and I have run quite a few miles together.  Both, wonderful ladies!  I was happy to be part of this!

Official time 31:52.4
10:17 average pace
Not bad for a distance runner who just ran a hard trail marathon the weekend prior!  [pats self on back]

Daily Mile & Lift

Today I was highly motivated by my new plan to run the Buffalo Run 25k in March.  So, I hit the weights hard and then ran on the treadmill.  It was actually above freezing out and I could have run outdoors, but  #1) It's faster to hop on the treadmill than to switch up clothes to run outside #2) It's warm inside #3) It's warm inside.  Yeah, that's worth two mentions.  I had heard that it's good to put the treadmill at a slight incline to better simulate running outside, so I tried it at the lowest incline.  Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference.   I will say that I'm getting much more tolerant of the treadmill than I used to be,  5k was over in no time!

Chest & Triceps day:
Incline Bench Press
Incline Dumbbell Press
Wide Grip Triceps Dips
Bench Press
Triceps Cable Rope Pull Downs

3.1 treadmill miles
32:50
10:35 pace

Ohhhh!  Look at the new tank Jeff got me!  I love it!  I'm also thinking my shoulders are looking pretty nice, no?

Family Firsts

My step-mom, Laura, has been on a journey this year to lose weight and become healthier.  She's doing an amazing job and has lost about 25 pounds.  My dad got her a treadmill and after much use, they decided to sign up for 5K together!  They did the Savannah River Bridge Run together today.  I talked to them both afterwards and it sounds like they both enjoyed it!  They finished in about 55 minutes.  I am so very proud of Laura and my dad!  It sounds like there will be more 5k's in their future!  Hooray!  Maybe some day we'll do one together!

Beautiful Laura
 My Dad
 Run.  Walk.  Crawl.
 Finishers!
And, as they both pointed out, they weren't last!
Congratulations again Dad & Laura!  Love you!

Rest beautiful rest

I'm still on high from the race and enjoying a couple days of rest.  My body is feeling amazing.  Nothing is really too sore any more. I do however, have a cold now.  I've been pampering myself with sleeping in and lots of foam rolling and vitamins.  I'm now thinking yoga tomorrow sounds really great.  I'm enjoying thinking about what will be next for me.  I did win free entry to a 5k next month and am thinking that I'll do the Vigor Half in May with Meghan, who will be running it.  I really loved the Big Cottonwood Half, and it's the same course.  I'm also scheming about when and where I'll be doing my next 50k.  Yes, I definitely think I'll be doing that again!
