Laps, Laps, Laps

I'm so excited because my BARF (Best Adventure Running Friend) is running her first marathon next month!  A trail marathon, no less!  She is kicking ass at all her long runs and we did 19 miles today as her longest run before Mid Mountain next month, and her longest run to date!

The plan was to run the Mid Mountain trail, but when we arrived in Park City, not only was it pouring rain, but it was freezing rain (37° degrees!) and lightning!  We actually got out of the car to scope the trailhead out, but when the giant flashes of light stuck once again we hightailed it outta there!

Frustrated and indecisive, we finally settled on driving back home and as long as it wasn't lightning, we'd run laps at Crestwood Park.  Well, it just so happens, that by the time we got back it was not only not lightning, but there was blue sky too!  Well, this can't be so bad, right?  There is a bathroom, we can use the car for an aid station and we have each other.  All that plus not being struck by lightning = WIN WIN!

Our run turned out fabulous and Katherine showed those nineteen miles who was boss and even finished with a grin!  I'm so proud!  I can't wait to run Mid Mountain with her next month!

Sporting my new gear!  Nathan SpeedDraw that matches my VaporShadow, yes please!  Totally loved it!  No sloshing and fits my hand like a glove!  Plus, I finally broke down and got myself this awesome La Sportiva Breeze jacket.  Perfection!

Mile 10 or so.  Still smiling!

One bonus of running laps at the park!

Our view for the day.

Then of course, I had to take a dip!  I'd run past this creek all damn morning!  There was no way I wasn't going in!  It felt good too!
And of course, a little tomfoolery to end the day right!  Sun's out, guns out!
Seriously, I am pumped that she finished so strong!  We did about 13.5 laps in all, which was way less painful than it sounds.  We had a blast!  Go Speedy K!

Soaked

When it's early in the morning and pouring rain, chances are you'll have the trails to yourself.

This guy showed up to the party.

Daily Mile

I don't have anything to say about this run, other than that it was a beautiful morning and I enjoyed it.  Is there really much more than that?

Summer Slacker

Ever since Bryce I've been taking it easy.  I've been putting in miles here and there and hitting the gym a few times a week, as well as swimming with my kids, but mentally I've been slacking.  And that's okay.

Look how pretty it is out there!

New toys!  Jeff got me this awesome little flashlight!  Now to get up early enough to test it...

Daily Mile & Lift

Well, I'm back at it in full swing!  I'm not really training for anything (even though I'm signed up for Mid Mountain Marathon on September 13th) but just back to my running life as usual.  I've yet to run farther than three miles, but I want to make sure I'm feeling 100% solid before I go venturing out on some long adventure.
Monday I ran three miles at Crestwood Park where I saw two different foxes!  One took off like a bat out of hell, but the other just hung out in the field watching me and Ozzy, my dog. Then I trained chest and hips (yes, I know strange combo) at the gym with Jeff.
Today I got up early for leg day after visiting the physical therapist and having him tell me my quads are so dominant that they spill over the sides of my legs.  Hello hamstrings!  Straight leg dead lifts and leg curls, check!
Maybe tomorrow I'll get wild and try four miles!

Daily Mile

Wednesday morning Jeff and I got up before five o'clock to head out for a five miler before he had to go to work. We ran down to crestwood park and back. He is really kicking ass with his running! Plus he kills the uphills with his powerful legs and glutes! After I dropped him back at the house I headed back out for a few more miles. I had forgotten how much I don't love road running.  still better than nothing, though!

Daily Mile & Lift

Somehow it's always the shorter distances that are hard for me.  I'm not sure if it's mental, or what, but often the my single digit runs are the tough ones!  Today was no exception.  My legs felt tired and sluggish and the  headwind was brutal.  I still took plenty of time to enjoy the grey day and some sights along the way.

Crestwood park.  Another super duper close mini-trail with a spectacular view of the mountains.
Lots of color brightened up this grey, windy run.
Not so shabby for a trail that's smack in the middle of town!

Then, as I was on my way home I kept hearing this sound like kids wailing.  I couldn't figure out what it was until I looked over and saw these guys!  They made me smile!

Home again, home again.

And now I'm completely beat up after killing leg day with Jeff tonight.  He put me through the wringer on the leg press with a killer pyramid set!

Daily Mile

This morning was a lovely jaunt from my place down to Crestwood Park with Katherine. I was feeling rather sluggish, so it was nice to have company to help me along.

Winter is on it's way.  The park was sprinkled with frost.
