Daily Mile & Lift

First things first, my amazing husband got me this kick ass t-shirt and shorts from Flag nor Fail  for Christmas.  The t-shirt says, "Never catch your breath."  YES!  I love it!
Now, on to the other good stuff!  I had an huge PR at the gym tonight!  I pressed 95 pounds on the decline bench press!  I only did two reps, but still, that is huge!  I am so super pumped about that!  When I first started lifting last year, I could only bench 30 pounds.  Jeff and I went to his gym.  I did a little running on the treadmill and we did chest and I threw in some squats for good measure.  They have a v-squat machine that I had never tried, but loved!

The routine:
Decline bench press
Incline bench press
High and low cable fly
Bench press drop set
V-squat

And because there is never anyone in the ladies locker room at Jeff's gym, I took advantage and snapped a couple of selfies.  The quads are coming along nicely.

Daily Mile (and Lift)

Today it's been dumping freezing rain and snow all day.  I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill (and actually enjoyed it) and did a nice full body routine.  To tell you how much it snowed while I was in the gym, I came out and immediately got my van stuck in the parking lot in the snow and had to call Jeff to come and bail me out!

Feeling strong today!  Here is what I did:
Deadlift
Decline bench press
Overhead dumbbell press
Lat pull downs
Lat raises
Barbell bicep curls
Barbell skull crushers
Single arm tricep cable pull down

Overhead dumbbell press
Decline bench press, that's 75 pounds!
Deadlift 115 pounds, that's 87% of my body weight!
Plus, my sweet jaunt on the treadmill.  Last winter I actually ran in the freezing rain!  It sucks.  This was better.  There might not have been dirt, but there was definitely sweat!

Plus I did another quarter mile walking cool down for a total 3.2 in 33:11

Oh, and I know you're absolutely dying to know what I did yesterday, so here it is!

Trail Run Tuesday: This is the best one yet!

This was definitely the best run yet this winter!  Katherine and I headed up to Millcreek Canyon and decided to go up the very first trailhead for the Pipeline trail, Rattlesnake Gulch.  It was just under a three-quarter mile hike up to the trail, and it was very cold to start.  But, once we got up to the Pipeline the sun was just coming up and it was warm and beautiful.  It was like an instant shot of happy!  My entire day was better because of this run!  I think I'll just let all the photos tell you the rest of the story...

Before we headed up.  Bundled up for the 19º weather!

Sassy!

Katherine was cursing my name at this point.  The climb seemed never ending...
To the Pipeline at last!  Here comes the sun!
There I go!  Photo by Katherine:
Above the inversion.  Too bad we had to come back down into that gross air!  I could have stayed up there all day!
You can only just see the tip of the Antelope Island mountains in the distance, center frame.

How'd you get so Fly?

This afternoon I joined Jeff at his gym for chest day.  I love lifting with Jeff!  I can push harder and heavier than when I'm by myself without worry I'll drop a barbell on my face.
Incline bench press 60#
Bench press 60#, 65#
Dumbbell fly 15#, 20#

Oh yeah, and I did this little workout, by Astrid, when I got up at 6am this morning:
 (three times through)

Today was an awesome day in workout land.  I can't wait for trail run Tuesday tomorrow!

Daily Mile

Today seemed like a good day to run.  Despite some nasty haze outside, the sun is out and the sky is (relatively) blue.  It was also around 20º by the time I got out.  I veritable heat wave!  I felt really good and strong.  The biggest problem is all the damn black ice.  I'd go from a nine minute mile to barely walking every time the road looked even remotely icy.  I am a pretty big sissy about this.  I do not want to fall!  But, it was wonderful to get out and move my legs!

New Drymax socks.  They were nice and toasty!
Some call it a running belt or fuel belt.  But, come on, let's be honest....  It's really just a fanny pack!

I found this quarter!  It must be my lucky day!

WOD

Wow, did I even run this week?  I might have to change my blog title to "run on dirt only Renee."  It actually feels a lot better than I anticipated to take so much time away from running.  With the single digit temps, the horrid air quality and the deep snow, I just can't find it in myself to feel bad about not running when I'm indoors sweating like a pig.  I realized that I like sweating.  I like the warm sun on my face.  I like dirt.  No, I love dirt!

This morning, I got up extra early to do a little workout before Jeff and I took the kids to Snowbird to snowboard.  It was really a fantastic day and perfect end to the week!

Today's sweat inducing fun!
