Ozzy and I went out for a run for his birthday today. He's two years old! Here is how it went down:
0-.50 miles: Wow! I feel really great! Hmm, the dog is limping a little.
.50-.75 miles: I can't believe how great I feel. Too bad the dog is limping!
mile .75: Wait. My knee hurts.
.75-1.50 miles: Walk. Try to run. No. Knee hurts (but only a little) better walk.
Walk. Limp goes the dog. Walk. Limp. Walk. Limp.
Not highly encouraging. Still, better than nothing. Now, I'm going to go do some yoga and try to relax from my nice stressful run. Then maybe I'll go buy Ozzy a nice bone.

Zippity Do Dah
It is a wonderful day indeed! I ran, and it felt great! My only complaint: it's damn cold outside! I'm just not ready for 39º! Brrr Thanks to my running buddy, Meghan for meeting me at 5:30am this morning and getting in the miles with our pups. It's always great to chat with friends, but even better getting back out there and feeling good!

Daily Mile
My hip was hurting a lot this morning, so my run was very short and very slow. After coming home and doing a bit of yoga and going for a hike it's feeling just fine. No pain. My body was just not cooperating at 6am today. Maybe I'll get in another short run tomorrow before my race on Saturday. This week and next week will be like rest/taper weeks, because then I have the Mid Mountain Marathon the week after that. One race this month, one next month and then the race in October! Yipee!

Daily Mile
Today was the first day I've taken Ozzy with me since he had xrays over a month ago. I only took him two miles, and then dropped him off at my house where Meghan was waiting to join me for three miles. The good news is that he is not limping after our run today! I think I'll keep taking him on short jaunts and go from there. Hopefully I'll have my furry running buddy back soon!
Meghan and I had a lovely run. Her birthday was the other day, but she was in California, so this was our birthday celebration run. I should have talked her into 34 miles for her 34th. Some how I don't think she would have gone for that. I'll have to work on Katherine. She'll be 30 in November!

Hello Utah!
I love going on vacation and running in new places, but I do love running here in Utah. Humidity is for the birds, or maybe the alligators. Either way, 75 degrees feels a lot cooler here than it does in Georgia! Also, Ozzy was thrilled to go for a run! I ran at 5am, nice and early to Meghan's house, did three miles with her and then ran back home. Seven miles before breakfast. Not too shabby.

Daily Mile
Today started with a homeless woman sitting in the middle of the road in front of my house with all her worldly possessions strewn across the road. She was mumbling loudly and when I came outside at 5am to meet Katherine I couldn't figure out why Katherine was mumbling to herself. Doh! Our run was uneventful and I caused us to be a little slow. Still recovering from Saturday, I suppose. But, every run can't be extraordinary, or they'd all be ordinary!

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Some runs are good, some bad, and some downright ugly. Some runs are all three. Today was all three. I started off at 5am into my neighborhood feeling very sore from weight lifting yesterday. Plus, there is so much smoke in the air from the fires in Colorado that the air is dry and unpleasant to breath. I just felt like a lump. I thought about cutting my run short, but decided that would be, as Katherine would say, "lame sauce." So I put in my ear buds and let Will I Am motivate me to the half way mark. Once I hit half way, not only was it downhill, but my spirits were lifted and I started feeling fantastic. It always amazes me how some runs can start out so crappy and end so wonderfully. Another day, another run owned!

Daily Mile
Today I met Katherine at her place at 5:30am. We ran the neighborhood and chatted it up. We have both decided that road running is just an evil necessity and that we much prefer trails. At least we can pound the pavement together.
You know you got up early when you put your running pants on inside out. Nice buns, hon!

Back to Back
I hadn't really intended to to a back to back this weekend, but that's just how it worked out. Meghan and I did Ann's Trail out and back. It was a gorgeous morning. I was feeling the race yesterday, but not too bad. It's always great to get out on the trail, sore or not!
Meghan took this cool panoramic shot.

Best day ever! Anyone want to take a guess where I ran? Yep. Corner Canyon! I started at Andy Ballard Equestrian Park, which is where the start of the Corner Canyon 25K/50K is. This took me on some nice single track up to the Carolina Hills trailhead. Then I headed up Canyon Hollow and down Clark's. It was gorgeous out and the perfect temperature. It was a bit muddy because it rained all night, but not too bad. I learned there is an advantage to having a dog that pulls on his leash. Having a bit of tension on the leash helped up run uphill in the mud more easily! Nice. Every time I run in Corner Canyon I feel like it's the best day of my life. I love it there. Just in case I haven't mentioned it before, I love Corner Canyon! I felt fantastic and killed the trail in record time!
Although this slug had seen better days, it was still cool.
Mmm, mud.

the long run
Another Sunday full of epic Corner Canyon goodness with my trail running buddies. I felt amazing today! I was full of energy and feeling speedy. I was able to power uphills and crush downhills. Where did all the energy come from!? It was fantastic! I kept getting ahead of the girls, which is totally unusual for me, as we all run right at about the same pace. It gave me plenty of opportunity to take lots of pictures. We did a Coyote Hollow loop to Clark's and then out and back on Ann's. We made it all the way to the end of Ann's Trail, where it meets up with Bonneville Shoreline. We had intended on 10-12 miles and ended up with a bit more. It was just a beautiful day to be out and we were all enjoying ourselves.
Lindsay fits in perfectly with us goofballs.

Daily Mile
Today I ran to Meghan's, then she ran me home and headed home herself. It was a gorgeous and warm morning and great to get in a few miles before my daughter's fifth birthday party.
Plus, I did ten push ups in a row today. Real, man push ups. Just thought you should know.

A quick morning jaunt up Viscounti with Meghan and Ozzy is always a great way to start the day! Then it was off to the gym to work shoulders with Jeff.
Sometimes I see bizarre things when I'm out running. The watering of an all rock lawn was definitely high on the bizarre scale.

Déjà vu
What was I just saying? Oh yeah, I can't get enough early morning trail runs! If I could start every day with a trail run, I would. Katherine and I headed out just before 6am this morning on Bonneville Shoreline Trail at the Coyote Hollow trailhead. We headed up the Potato Hill trail to Ann's trail, southbound. We had never been out so far on Ann's. What an amazing trail! We loved it! It was raining/sprinkling/misting on us the whole time, but it was warm enough that we weren't cold. The fog and mist that was rolling around the hills was amazing! The trail was rolling, mostly uphill on the way out and speedy downhill on the way back. There were patches of mud that made us slip and slide, but not too much. Overall is was fantastic! Plus, we saw a deer and heard lots of birdsong which made it even more awesome!
Headlamps to start.
One misty, moisty morning, when cloudy was the weather...
My best trail running buddy!
Can you see me?
Fog!
The giant mansions throw me off, but only a little.
On top of the world!
We made it back to the car, a bit wet and muddy, but oh so very happy!
